Student Transfers

Horizontal Transfer is a system that allows students, after being placed in a program based on university entrance exam results and completing a certain period, to transfer to the same or a different department within the same university or to another university under specific rules. There are three types of horizontal transfer: inter-institutional transfer, transfer based on central placement exam scores, and intra-institutional transfer.

Inter-Institutional Transfer: This refers to transfers between different universities (domestic/international). The primary requirement for this type of transfer is a high GPA. Applications are evaluated within the allocated quotas, and students with the highest GPA are admitted within these limits. Therefore, GPA plays a crucial role in this type of transfer.

Transfer via Central Placement Exam: This type of transfer occurs between universities within the country. The determining factor is the student’s placement score. Students may apply if their placement score is higher than the required score for the same program at the target university. If their score is lower, they cannot benefit from this transfer type. Transfers are carried out within quota limits.

Intra-Institutional Transfer: This refers to transfers between departments within Bartın University. To be eligible, students must have successfully completed all courses in their current program and have a minimum GPA of 3.20 out of 4.00. Additionally, the student’s placement score must not be lower than the minimum base score of equivalent programs in other universities and can be at most 5% lower than the base score of the target program. For departments admitting students through special talent exams, placement scores are also considered. Daytime education programs can only transfer to daytime programs, and evening education programs can only transfer to evening programs.

Application Period: Students can apply for horizontal transfer after completing at least their first academic year. The preparatory class is not considered as the first year; students must complete one year in their department for GPA calculation. Applications cannot be made for the first or last semester in associate degree programs, nor for the first or final year in undergraduate programs.

Vertical Transfer: Vertical transfer is an examination-based system that allows students who have successfully completed or are about to complete an associate degree program to transfer to a related undergraduate program. Unlike horizontal transfer, it does not refer to switching between programs but rather transitioning from a two-year program to a four-year program. Students who qualify for vertical transfer can have the courses they successfully completed during their associate degree recognized. Thus, they may start their undergraduate education from the third year instead of the first year.
